LRT Planning Studies Win Award of Excellence

LRT Concept

February 16, 2011

The City of Edmonton is thrilled to accept an Award of Excellence from the Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) for the West and Southeast LRT corridor selection studies.

“The award recognizes the tremendous effort, time and energy the project team put into the studies,” says Adam Laughlin, Director of Facility and Capital Planning. “We appreciate the honour and privilege that comes from being recognized by our colleagues.”

Project objectives included respecting neighbourhoods and parklands; maximizing the use of existing transportation corridors; and connecting existing and future activity centres. Public involvement also played a major role in these studies, as Edmontonians had the opportunity to get informed and provide feedback through the public meetings that were held.

“The completed planning study provided City Council with a well supported process on which to base its preferred route decisions and subsequent concept development,” said Wendy Cooper, CEA chief executive officer.

Mayor Stephen Mandel is presenting a framed print that was offered by the CEA to the LRT planning team in recognition of the project.

West and Southeast renderings can be accessed at the City of Edmonton gallery.
