John Janzen Nature Centre Reopens

Explore nature in the city and celebrate the reopening of the John Janzen Nature Centre. Check out the city’s newest hot spot for kids to crawl, climb and slide while pretending to be a red squirrel, a beaver or a bee.

The stunning new Tegler Discovery Zone recreates the environment of Edmonton’s local wildlife as an oversized interpretive play space for children under 10 years old – don’t forget to bring your socks!
Join us for an action-packed afternoon with free events and complimentary cake. The whole family will enjoy participating in eco-activities, checking out the exhibits and exploring the trails around the Nature Centre.
Activities for children and families take place on Saturday from 11am – 4pm including:
- pond dipping – learn all about the diverse creatures living in the pond
- animal encounters – up-close encounters with local reptiles and amphibians
- paper-making – learn how to make paper and discover the importance of recycling
- composting – observe the composting demonstration on the front lawn
- face painting –airbrush art will be available for all visitors
- nature walks – enjoy seeing nature in action, along the paths around the Nature Centre
- crafts – make an amazing craft with material from the Edmonton Reuse Centre
Nestled in the heart of the river valley, the John Janzen Nature Centre offers programs, camps, classes, and exhibits to encourage awareness and understanding of nature in an urban setting. The Nature Centre is reopening to the public after being closed for a year to build an exciting new expansion.
