Edmontonians Reminded to Stay Off Thin Ice
March 21, 2011
City of Edmonton Park Rangers remind Edmontonians that with warmer weather finally here, spring thaw has started, making all ice unsafe. People and pets should stay off all lakes, creeks and the North Saskatchewan River. Ice surfaces may appear thick enough to walk on but are hazardous.
City Park Rangers recommend avoiding the following areas:
- North Saskatchewan River;
- Mill Creek;
- Whitemud Creek;
- All creeks that feed into local ponds or the North Saskatchewan River;
- All man-made or natural ice surfaces including Hermitage Park ponds, Lake Beaumaris, and all other storm management ponds and lakes;
- Storm water run-off ditches and ponds located in and around Edmonton.
