Donate-a-Ride Distributes Tickets to Ride

April 15, 2011

This year’s Donate-a-Ride Campaign raised enough funds to provide more than 80,000 transit tickets to Edmontonians in need.

Distributed via local social service agencies, these tickets help low-income individuals and families with basic transportation to get to the employment, educational and social services they need to improve their lives.

“The Donate-a-Ride program faced many challenges this year including a continued high demand for tickets,” said Councillor Krushell. “We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from both corporations and individuals in our community which has enabled us to continue to support Edmontonians in need.”

Mayor Stephen Mandel joined Councillor Krushell in announcing this success of this year’s campaign, which relies on many local and national corporations to fund the free rides. Two new Gold level sponsors, Siemens Canada Ltd and Prestige Transportation, are acknowledged for their $5000 contributions to the campaign.

This year 58 local Edmonton charitable agencies are receiving 82,470 ETS tickets worth $183,021 for their clients.  Over the 15 years of support, the Donate-a-Ride program has distributed a total of 835,252 tickets valued at $1.5 million to community agencies.

“Edmonton has many strong, committed social service agencies and we’re very pleased we can assist them by providing transportation support for their clients through the Donate-a-Ride program,” added Councillor Krushell.
