September 30, 2011
City of Edmonton Councillor Linda Sloan has been elected President of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) at the annual convention in Calgary.
“All Alberta municipalities share a common commitment to enrich and strengthen our communities,” said Councillor Sloan. “AUMA members regardless of size and geography are stronger when standing together. It will be my priority over the next year to build on these relationships.”
Councillor Sloan successfully defeated Mayor Martin Shields of Brooks and Lloyd Bertschi, Mayor of the Town of Morinville. AUMA President is a one-year posting.
Councillor Sloan is currently serving her third term for Ward 1. Prior to being elected to City Council, she served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1997 to 2001 representing Edmonton Riverview.
AUMA was founded in 1905 and represents Alberta’s 284 urban municipalities including cities, towns, villages, summer villages and specialized municipalities, as well as associate and affiliate members.
