Campaign Clean-up Countdown

May 03, 2011

City reminds candidates to remove all signs by midnight Thursday, May 5

Candidates who ran in the federal election have until Thursday, May 5 at midnight to take down campaign signs, otherwise they could face costly fines.

All election signs must be removed from public property within 3 days of the election. Starting Friday, May 6, the City of Edmonton’s Community Standards Peace Officers will begin removing any remaining signs and may fine candidates up to $250 per sign.

Candidates and residents with plastic or cardboard campaign signs are encouraged to recycle them at any of these locations:

  • Edmonton Waste Management Centre (13111 Meridian Street)
  • Ambleside Eco Station (14710 Ellerslie Road SW)
  • Recycling Depots

The City issued 24 warnings for illegally placed campaign signs during the election, and no tickets.

Edmontonians can call 311 to report concerns about the removal of campaign signs. For more information about election sign guidelines in Edmonton, visit www.edmonton.ca/campaignsigns.
