A Pawsitive Move for Pets
October 27, 2010
City’s new Animal Care and Control Centre now open
Edmonton’s stray pets have a new place to stay while waiting for their owners. Construction of the City’s new $13.2 million Animal Care and Control Centre is complete and the animals are moving in.
Starting October 28, the old Animal Services Facility will be closed and residents that have lost or found a pet should go to the new centre at 13550–163 Street.
The new Animal Care and Control Centre will improve the care provided to over 8,000 lost pets each year. It features more and better-designed space for pets, and larger service areas for staff and the public.
The City’s Animal Care and Control Officers and animal care staff will work together in this new building to provide more integrated service to Edmontonians. Additionally, it is located next door to the Edmonton Humane Society, which takes over 2,500 stray animals from the City for adoption each year.
City staff will be moving the pets in our care from the old facility to the new centre. Anyone who has lost a pet during the move can claim it by going to the new centre. Residents are asked to be patient as there will be some delays when claiming their pets.
