5,008 Voters at First Day of Ward-based Advance Voting

October 09, 2010

5,008 eligible voters marked a ballot on the first day of advance voting in each of the 12 new wards. Combined with the number of those who voted at the city-wide advance vote at City Hall between October 4 and 8, this brings the total number of voters in the first week of advance voting to 6,198.

In 2007, 2,843 voters marked a ballot in the same time period during city-wide advance voting at City Hall and the first day of ward-based advance voting.

“We can’t say that the advance vote numbers determine what voter turnout will be on Election Day,” says Alayne Sinclair, Returning Officer, “but we are definitely pleased with the turnout at the advance votes so far.”

The total number of voters at all advance votes will be released next Saturday October 16 after the voting stations close at 4pm.

Voters can confirm their ward and voting station by visiting www.edmonton.ca/election or by calling 780-442-VOTE (8683).

Where to Vote notices are in the process of being delivered to each home in Edmonton. They provide information on your voting station, voting opportunities and the candidates in your ward.

In this election, eligible voters are reminded that they will elect one mayor, one councillor in each ward and one school trustee.

Remember to bring ID to the voting station when you vote.

Election Day is Monday, October 18, 2010.
