City of Edmonton Prepares for Walterdale Bridge Construction
January 03, 2013
Trails closed and trees removed to accommodate new bridge
As the City of Edmonton gets ready to begin construction of the new Walterdale Bridge this spring, it will be making changes in the area near the old bridge.
Crews will begin clearing trees on both sides of the North Saskatchewan River, beginning on the south bank on Thursday January 3, 2013. This will make way for access roads needed during bridge construction.
To ensure pedestrian and cyclist safety, the City will also close River Valley trails near the current bridge on Monday January 7, 2013. Affected trails include the lower portion of Queen Elizabeth Park, the gravel path in the lower portion of Kinsmen Park and the area around the EPCOR generating station. Trails will remain closed until construction is completed in late 2015 and a trail detour will be in place for pedestrians and cyclists.
Construction will include bridge work, roadway work such as re-aligning Walterdale Hill Road and Queen Elizabeth Park Road, and multi-use trail connections.
