Sweet! It’s the 2012 Jellybean Internet Voting Election

October 04, 2012

Voter registration for the 2012 Jellybean Internet Voting Election opens on Monday October 8, 2012.

The City of Edmonton is inviting the public to test an internet voting system by voting in the 2012 Jellybean Internet Voting Election.

The test will help the City to determine if the system meets the City’s needs for voter privacy, security, auditability and usability.

Anyone interested in testing the internet voting system can register between 8am on October 8, 2012 and noon, November 1, 2012. Voting takes place between 8am October 22, 2012 and noon on November 2, 2012.

Registration and voting will be done online.

In addition, Centre for Public Involvement is inviting individuals to participate in a number of public consultation opportunities on the topic of internet voting – including online surveys and roundtable advisory groups.

The 2012 Jellybean Internet Voting Election and public involvement initiatives are designed to test the proposed internet voting technology, as well as gauge whether or not Edmontonians accept internet voting as a viable voting option.

Outcomes of the public consultation process and 2012 Jellybean Internet Voting Election will be provided to City Council in a report going forward in January, 2013. The outcomes will help determine whether or not the City of Edmonton will offer internet voting in future elections.

More information on the 2012 Jellybean Internet Voting Election and the Centre for Public Involvement public consultation process can be found at www.edmonton.ca/internetvoting.
