Road Maintenance Crews Sand City Streets

Snow Removal

November 01, 2012

In response to the precipitation that began falling overnight, Roadway Maintenance deployed 45 sanders at 3am on November 1, 2012 to bring roads up to good winter driving condition for the morning commute. As the freezing rain/ice pellets have persisted through the morning, additional sanders and other ice management equipment have been sent out on hills, bridges, freeways and major arterial roads.

As the current forecast calls for between 5 and 10cm of snow, Roadway Maintenance will monitor road conditions and deploy more equipment as required.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution when navigating roads in the Edmonton area throughout the day. Be sure to drive for the conditions, slow down, brake sooner, and leave extra space between your vehicle and the one in front of you. Please also give wide berth to snow maintenance equipment working on the streets.

Home and business owners are also reminded that these conditions on sidewalks can create a significant hazard to pedestrians. Please clear and if necessary, sand sidewalks quickly so that everyone can get around safely, including those with disabilities. Free sand is available at community centres around Edmonton; to find the location closest to you, please visit Community Sandboxes.
