Proposal to Rezone Surplus School Sites for Future Seniors Housing
September 05, 2012
Citizens are invited to attend one of two public meetings to learn about a proposed rezoning of vacant surplus land previously reserved for school building development in various North and South Edmonton neighbourhoods.
Public Meeting for North side communities
Overlanders, Caernarvon, Miller, Wedgewood Heights
Date: Wednesday September 12, 2012
Time: 4pm–8:30pm (15-minute presentations at 5pm and 7pm)
Location: Central Lions Seniors Centre, Large Auditorium
11113-113 Street
Public Meeting for South side communities
Kiniski Gardens, Sakaw, Bulyea Heights, Blue Quill
Date: Thursday September 13, 2012
Time: 4pm–8:30pm (15-minute presentations at 5pm and 7pm)
Location: PLEASE NOTE that the location has been changed from the Confederation Leisure Centre to Louis St. Laurent Junior/Senior High School, Cafeteria
11230 - 43 Avenue (next to the Confederation Leisure Centre).
Signs will be posted in front of the Leisure Centre, and City Staff will be available in the parking lot to direct residents to the new location.
The City apologizes for any inconvenience.
The rezoning would amend Area Structure Plans and Neighbourhood Structure Plans, remove a reserve designation, and change current zoning to RA7 (Low Rise Apartment Zone), which would allow future construction of housing for seniors in place of the planned school buildings that are no longer required. This rezoning does not affect parkland or planned open space around the proposed building footprint.
The meetings will be an opportunity to learn more about the proposal and provide your feedback to the City. Feedback will be summarized in a report to City Council before they make their decision on the rezoning.
