Forgotten Victims Focus of Family Violence Prevention Month
November 01, 2012
The City of Edmonton proclaims November Family Violence Prevention Month. The focus this year is on raising awareness of the impact of family violence on children. Living with family violence can affect the normal physical, emotional, spiritual and mental development of children.
Children living with family violence often grow up to become victims or abusers themselves. This cycle needs to be broken.
During Family Violence Prevention Month in Alberta, hundreds of communities and thousands of individuals are actively involved in preventing family violence through education and service provision.
The City of Edmonton actively raises awareness of family violence and provides direct service to citizens through several programs.
Assessment and short-term counseling is a free service available to citizens. To talk confidentially with a social worker, call 780-496-4777. Approximately 1,000 calls per year are received at this number related to family violence.
