ETS Receives National and International Recognition
June 20, 2012
ETS programs and staff recognized by Canadian and American public transit associations
Two areas of Edmonton Transit received 2012 national awards honouring excellence in public transit from the Canadian Urban Transit Association. The ETS Marketing Group received a Marketing and Communication Award for their ETS Concert in Motion Campaign with local recording artist Colleen Brown and Councillor Don Iveson.
“We have had terrific feedback on the video and we’re really pleased with the uptake on the social media tools,” said Nathan Walters, Senior Strategic Marketing Officer. “Recognition by our peers at this national level is a good sign that we’re on the right track.”
The ETS Operational Support team received a Safety and Security Award for their Youth Violence Prevention Initiative.
“Our goal is the proactive identification of at-risk and high risk youth who use public transit in Edmonton, and steering them into early intervention programs,” said Ron Gabruck, Director of Operational Support. “This is not just an ETS award; it also belongs to our community partners including the Edmonton Taskforce on Community Safety, Edmonton Police Service, and youth referral agencies.”
ETS Operator Larry Waselenchuk placed 5th in the 2012 American Public Transportation Association Bus Roadeo; the highest scoring Canadian among the 51 participants and just 18 points behind first place.
“Larry is a credit to our organization,” said Wes Brodhead, Director of Bus Operations. “He brings these skills to work daily, and that makes him a champion to the thousands of people who ride his bus every day.”
