Municipal Cemeteries Master Plan approved
City Council has approved the master plan for municipally owned and operated cemeteries. The plan calls for upgrades to Northern Lights and South Haven cemeteries. As well, the City will also increase how much funding will be allocated to the perpetual care fund, which will be used to fund capital upgrades to Northern Lights and South Haven cemeteries. Additionally, cemetery fees will be reviewed annually to keep pace with inflation and market pricing.
Council approves funding to examine lake in Hawrelak Park
City Council has agreed to provide $100,000 to more closely examine what needs to be done with the lake at Hawrelak Park to meet International Triathalon Union (ITU) standards for hosting triathlons. The City has the opportunity to bid on hosting the 2014 ITU Grand Final, although a decision on hosting the event has not been made yet. A report on the cost of upgrading the lake is expected to go before council in the first quarter of 2013.
Growth Coordination Strategy approved for new communities
City Council approved a Growth Coordination Strategy, a framework for the planning and development of new residential communities. It will provide comprehensive, consistent and timely information on how and where the city is growing. The information will help the City manage future public obligations for those new neighbourhoods
