Council Roundup – April 4, 2012
April 04, 2012
No smoking near waterparks, playgrounds and sports fields now in effect
Council amended the outdoor smoking bylaw to prohibit smoking within ten metres of any outdoor playground, spray park, skate park, outdoor sports field and any outdoor ice skating rink. This amendment, effective immediately, will regulate outdoor smoking where children are commonly present, helping to ensure that play spaces remain fresh air spaces. A public awareness campaign and signage will be the first steps in implementing the bylaw.
City and CSU 52 agree on new contract
City Council and Civic Service Union 52 have ratified a collective agreement for 2011-2013. The agreement provides for wage increases of 2.5% in 2011, 3% in 2012 and 2.857% in 2013, with other benefit improvements in the final year. The Union represents technical, professional, administrative and clerical workers within the City of Edmonton.
Council for a Parliament of World Religions
Council approved a motion to submit an application, in partnership with the Edmonton Interfaith Centre for Edmonton and Action, for membership as a Partner City with the Council for a Parliament of World Religions. This will affirm and celebrate Edmonton’s interfaith community and position Edmonton for a bid to host the 2019 Parliament of World Religions.
