Fort Road open for business; Jasper Avenue gets a facelift

The City’s 2012 construction season is drawing to a close with $146 million invested in bridges, paving on arterial and collector roads and other growth projects to enhance Edmonton’s transportation infrastructure.

“This year we concentrated work in a few essential locations,” said Barry Belcourt, Branch Manager for Roads Design and Construction. “Despite weather setbacks in July, we completed most of our major projects on schedule. Our infrastructure improvements keep Edmontonians moving efficiently and effectively throughout the city.”

Motorists may have noticed an easier commute this summer as some projects, such as the Grierson Road Bridge, were completed months ahead of schedule.

Major initiatives completed in 2012

  • Fort Road between 131 Ave-137 Ave  (year 2 of 2)
  • Grierson Road Bridge over McDougall Hill/Scona Road
    • MacDonald Drive Pedestrian Underpass
  • 82 Ave Bridge over Argyll Road Connector
  • 97 Street between Yellowhead Trail-137 Ave
  • Ellerslie Road Bridge over Blackmud Creek
  • Anthony Henday Drive connectors:
    • Lessard Road west
    • 137 Ave/170 Street
    • 66 Street between 167 Ave-195 Ave

Projects carried over to 2013

  • Central LRT Station and Jasper Ave Streetscape (year 1 of 2)
  • Capital Boulevard
    • 108 Street between 99 Ave-104 Ave (year 2 of 3)
    • 99 Ave between107 Street-109 Street (year 2 of 3)
  • 17 Street/23 Ave upgrades/connection to Meadows Rec Centre (year 2 of 3)
  • 118 Ave Streetscape between 103 Street-106 Street (year 1 of 2)

During 2012 the City completed 11 major arterial road projects, 29 collector paving projects and 9 growth projects including bridges. Details for all road projects are available on the City’s Construction on Your Streets Map.
