City hopes to paint the town green on Saturday night
March 16, 2012
Six Edmonton home builders will be called green and the rest will be green with envy over a new award recognizing Edmonton’s most environmentally responsible residential construction companies, sponsored by the City of Edmonton.
The Environmental Recognition Award will be presented at the Canadian Home Builders’ Association Awards of Excellence in Housing gala on March 17. To be considered for the award, companies have to show that they are going above and beyond industry standards to promote energy efficiency, water conservation, high indoor air quality, and a reduction in construction waste.
“The City is working hard to ensure Edmonton is a sustainable city where we preserve our environment for future generations,” says Scott Mackie, Manager of the City’s Current Planning Branch. “But we can’t do this on our own; innovative builders that are finding ways to build more energy-efficient, environmentally friendly homes play a critical role in making our city more sustainable.”
Sponsoring the award is part of the City’s larger Green Building Plan which aims to make both public and private construction more environmentally friendly. Recognizing companies that are green leaders is a way to inspire other companies to do their part.
Residents looking for a new home can find out which builders are leading the industry in green building by visiting the Canadian Home Builders’ Association next week at www.chbaedmonton.ca.
