Canada Day the Old Fashioned Way

Celebrate Canada’s birthday a few days early at the John Walter Museum and enjoy live music, storytelling, and cultural activities from John Walter’s lifetime. Don’t miss out on free cake and lemonade!

Time: 1–5pm
Location: 9180 Walterdale Hill N.W. (north side of the Kinsmen Sport Centre parking lot)
Admission: FREE
Costumed interpreters will help visitors cook bannock, play games and make a simple craft while sharing their knowledge of Edmonton’s early history. Join a 45-minute walking tour to the traditional Aboriginal cemetery and Fort Edmonton Cemetery just across the river.
The day’s events will include:
- Free cake, lemonade and tea (while supplies last) – join in as we sing O Canada and enjoy a free slice of delicious cake as we celebrate Canada Day early.
- Live music – look forward to lively flutes and whistles, as well as traditional French Canadian songs and puppetry.
- Candle making – light up your afternoon and learn how to make a candle.
- Bannock – a costumed interpreter will teach you how to cook bannock on a stick over an open fire. Top your tasty treat with delicious Saskatoon jam!
- Craft activity

This event is an opportunity to discover Edmonton’s history through fun outdoor activities along the banks of Edmonton’s river valley.
