2011 City Council Budget and Expense Reports Released

Edmonton City Council’s annual budget and year-end expenditure reports are now available. The reports include summaries of the Councillors’ Budgets, Common Travel and Training Budget, and Mayor Mandel’s Budget for 2011. 

                               
Councillors’ Budget Report

Councillors' 2011 Budget was $1,263,865 with actual individual expenses totaling $1,118,682.

Every year, each Councillor is allocated an office budget, to be spent at their discretion. In order to receive reimbursement for any business expense, an original receipt must be provided and signed by the Councillor.

Councillors’ expenses are broken down into the following categories: 

• Personnel: includes salaries for Executive Assistants and Research Assistants, vacation/staff replacement, and contract/research staff.
• Expenses: includes Travel and Training, Promotional Items, Hosting and Tickets, and Communications.
• Hosting and Tickets: for hosting purposes or for purchasing tickets for social functions or meetings that are related to the Councillor's role as an elected official of the City of Edmonton.
• Communications: expenses such as advertising in community newspapers and newsletters, meeting expenses, memberships, subscriptions, books, and telecommunications—items which are not included in the Councillors' Common Budget.

Councillor’s Common Travel and Training Report

Councillors' Travel budget for 2011 was $71,500 with actual Common Travel expenses totaling $68,735.

Mayor Mandel’s Budget Report

The Mayor's 2011 Budget was $1,338,268* with actual total expenses totaling $122,129.56.

NOTE: The Office of the Mayor makes corporate level expenditures in these categories that are not comparable with Councillors' expenses.
