City Introduces New Waste Collection Service
October 02, 2009
Waste collectors provide door-side service to residents with mobility challenges
The City has launched an assisted waste collection service for residents with temporary or permanent mobility challenges. Customers of the new program will have their garbage and recyclables collected from their door with no additional charge.
“We are committed to improving Edmonton’s livability and meeting the needs of our aging population,” said Mayor Stephen Mandel. “This assisted collection service will make daily living easier for seniors and disabled citizens and will help them to remain independent, and in their own homes.”
Waste collectors will pick up garbage and recyclables on the customer’s regular collection day and carry it from the resident’s door to the curbside or alley.
Applications for the service are available and can be submitted online or by mail or fax. Application forms are also available at City Hall and City of Edmonton libraries. The application process includes a home visit by collection staff to explain the program.
