Who is Eligible to Vote
To be eligible to vote, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be a Canadian citizen
- Be a resident of the city of Edmonton on Election Day
- Be a resident in Alberta for the six consecutive months immediately preceding election day
- Not have voted previously in the current Election
- Provide identification that confirms age and identity
If a candidate, a candidate's official agent or scrutineer believes a person is not eligible to vote, the objection will be noted on the Voting Register, but the person will be allowed to vote.
Voting more than once is a punishable offence under the Local Authorities Election Act. Offenders face up to 6 months of imprisonment, a maximum fine of $10,000, or both.
