Candidate Forums

All-candidate forums are presented by the City of Edmonton, Edmonton Public Schools and Edmonton Catholic Schools.

At each forum, all candidates are allotted time for opening remarks, followed by a brief intermission and a 30-minute question and answer session.

Forum webcasts

All City of Edmonton forums will be webcast so Edmontonians can view and participate in the forums from their home computers.

Mayor and Councillor Forums

There are forums held for the Mayor's race and 12 forums in each of the 12 wards for the Councillors' races.

Deaf and hard-of-hearing citizens are encouraged to attend the City's candidate forums. Real Time Captioning and American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters will be provided at all forums.

Online Video Interviews in Lieu of Forums for School Board Trustee Candidates

To give the electorate the widest possible exposure to trustee candidates, Edmonton Catholic Separate Schools and Edmonton Public Schools have replaced in-person forums with individual candidate online video interviews that can be accessed at any time by the electorate. In addition, the two school districts will provide links to individual candidate campaign websites and/or PDF versions of their campaign brochures.

The format for the video interviews is similar to that used for Mayor and City Councillor forums. Trustee candidates make a set-timed statement to introduce themselves and to say why they are running for office. Candidates then answer a common set of questions asked of all candidates. Each candidate is given a set period of time to respond to each question.

Contact information for each candidate is provided along with links to individual candidate campaign websites in the event that a constituent wishes to learn more about a candidate.

Forum Guidelines

The guidelines for Mayor, Councillor, and School Board Trustee are the same and take precedence over any other facility use guidelines.
