Co-op Work Terms
For those students who are enrolled in a co-op program in their field of study - look to the City of Edmonton for a great co-op placement! Co-op work terms are paid placements ranging from 4 – 16 months depending on the student’s school requirements. Work terms are offered for many different fields of study including Engineering, Business, IT, Architecture and Planning.

Internships
Internships are for graduates from a post secondary educational institution looking for work experience in their field of study. Internships are paid and can range from 5 – 24 months with interns gaining valuable career related experience. Most interns transition into full time positions after completing their internship. Graduates may apply for an intern position through the City job opportunities section.

Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)
The Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) is for high school students interested in becoming a journey person in one of the many trades that the City employs. This program allows students to earn 40 high school credits, gain apprenticeship hours in a trade of their choice, and get paid for the work done! Students have the potential of completing their first year of the apprenticeship program by the time they graduate from high school.

Summer Student Placement (SSP)
The Summer Student Placement (SSP) program is for Métis youth seeking full time employment and quality work experience during the summer months. Métis youth ages 15 - 30, who were registered full-time in the previous academic year and have intentions of returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year, are eligible for this program.

Summer Temporary Employment Program (STEP)
The Summer Temporary Employment Program (STEP) is geared towards post-secondary students who wish to gain valuable work experience that is related to their field of study. The program is funded by the province and is available during the summer months.

Summer Work Experience Placement (SWEP)
The Summer Work Experience Placement (SWEP) program assists First Nations and Inuit students who are currently enrolled in full-time studies and plan on returning to school in the fall. The program is designed to offer meaningful, career-related work placements for students during the summer months.

Work Experience/Practicum
Work experience/practicum placements are normally short term in duration, unpaid and coordinated through the student’s school. This type of opportunity is offered for Social Work, Business, Office Administration and Public Relations.

Young Canada Works (YCW)
Young Canada Works (YCW) offers students and recent graduates the chance to put their skills to the test, build career equity, earn money for their education or get started on the right career path. This program focuses on providing work opportunities in the areas of Community and Heritage Development.

In addition to these opportunities, the City of Edmonton fills hundreds of seasonal positions, ideal for students looking for summer employment, each year. Opportunities for recreational facilities, community summer programs and attractions are posted in the spring.
