Program history

City Council approved the Smart Choices Program in 2004 to address some of the city's key development challenges and improve the way the city evolves and grows.

The goals for Smart Choices have been re-affirmed in the City’s Strategic Plan (2009-2018), the Municipal Development Plan (2010), and the Transportation Master Plan (2009). Together they call for transforming Edmonton’s urban form, improving Edmonton’s livability, shifting Edmonton’s transportation mode, as well as preserving and sustaining Edmonton’s environment.
