2007
  • Edmonton City Council declares its membership in the Coalition of Municipalities against Racism and Discrimination(CMARD)
  • A Racism Free Edmonton committee established to give input and support in the development and implementation of a Municipal Action Plan. The committee decides to focus on racial discrimination before considering other forms of discrimination.
2008

Racism Free Edmonton Committee is created and hosts four Community Forums in Edmonton to:
  • Involve residents in anti-racism initiatives and decision-making.
  • Provide information to the public about the Racism Free Edmonton Committee and its current mandate
  • Promote Edmonton as a municipality committed to being free of racism
  • Provide the opportunity for community stakeholders to identify issues and potential solutions
2009
  • Funding secured from three orders of government to implement Racism Free Edmonton
  • CEO committee formed and met
  • Management Action Team founded
  • RFE staff hired
2010
  • Indigenous people and racialized groups meet to discuss their experience with racism in Edmonton
  • Partner organizations meet to discuss and identify systemic barriers within their organizations that are barriers to Indigenous people and other racialized groups
  • Public education campaign under development.
