Provincial Funding
Provincial funding has enabled Edmonton to move forward on major projects, many of which would have otherwise been deferred. Grant funding from the province (as of 2013) includes:
Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI)
provides financial support to municipalities for infrastructure needs to help build and sustain strong, vibrant communities. The MSI grant has supported many City of Edmonton projects, including the Fort Edmonton Footbridge, Louise McKinney Park, the Hertiage Valley Fire Station, the Animal Control Facility, and snow storage facilities.City Transportation Fund (CTF)
provides financial support for the development and implementation of highway routes, major streets, and public transit systems (bus and light rail transit), in order to enhance mobility and efficient distribution of goods and services and thus encourage economic growth of the province. The CTF has supported many of the City's road and public transit projects, such as the building of the .Green Transit Incentives Program (GreenTRIP)
is a one-time capital funding program that supports public transit infrastructure and technology.
GreenTRIP has contributed toward the project costs of the north extension of Edmonton's light rail transit system (North LRT to NAIT project).
These and other infrastructure funding sources are explained in detail in the 10-year Capital Investment Agenda (2012 - 21).
