Audit Committee is responsible for providing oversight and consideration of audit matters brought forward by the City Auditor and the External Auditor. The City Auditor's reports typically focus on compliance, controls, efficiency, effectiveness, and economy of City operations.

In 2009, City Council decided to expand membership of Audit Committee to include two citizens with extensive background in financial accountability in large organizations.

Citizen members

Monica Norminton is a Chartered Accountant and is currently President and Chief Executive Officer for Alberta Pensions Administration Corporation, which has transactions of approximately $3 billion annually. Prior to joining APA, Monica was Assistant Deputy Minister with Alberta Environment and Chief Administrative Officer for the Auditor General of Alberta.

Bill Grace is also a Chartered Accountant and has a distinguished career as a financial executive in several oil and gas corporations. He has been a managing partner of Edmonton’s Price Waterhouse office and has served as President of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Citizen members of Audit Committee can serve a maximum of 6 years. Monica Norminton has been appointed to a term ending December 31, 2013. Bill Grace will serve a term to the end of 2012.
