Since starting a curbside recycling program in 1988, Edmontonians have proudly become national leaders in sustainable waste management.

Branch Overview

Waste Management Services provides waste management services for City of Edmonton residents keeping in mind the preservation of natural resources, the protection of the environment and the financial capabilities of the City.

Edmonton’s integrated waste system has three main areas of operation:

Community Relations

Collection Services

  • Garbage collection for all residents
  • Eco Stations for household hazardous waste and other waste
  • Blue bag recycling collection for single family homes
  • Blue bin recycling at apartments
  • 22 community recycling depots
  • Big bin events for large items
  • Assisted waste collection
  • Litter collection

Processing and Disposal

  • Integrated processing and transfer station
  • Edmonton Composting Facility
  • Materials Recovery Facility (MRF)
  • Landfill gas recovery
