Historian Laureate
Ken Tingley is Edmonton’s first Historian Laureate.
Tingley is a respected historian in Edmonton. His career began in 1973 when he helped to recreate 1885 Street at Fort Edmonton Park. Tingley has researched and written about many aspects of Edmonton’s history, including aviation, military, political, transportation and architecture.
In addition to his work as a researcher and writer, Tingley has been actively involved with the Edmonton and District Historical Society, Old Strathcona Foundation, Edmonton Historical Board and other local museums and heritage groups as a board member, volunteer, and supporter.
Tingley will produce one written document and give two public presentations each year as Historian Laureate. He will work closely with the Edmonton Historical Board and Edmonton Heritage Council.
Ken Tingley’s two-year term as Historian Laureate begins on April 14, 2010.
