About the Service
Where citizen activities or property conditions don't meet accepted municipal standards, Municipal Enforcement Officers provide education, warnings, inspections and apply penalties.
Municipal Enforcement Officers work with citizens in neighbourhoods and business communities to ensure that Edmonton's basic community standards are maintained to a reasonable level.
Municipal Enforcement Officers enforce bylaws to deal with many common complaints which are detailed on the links outlined below:
- Bylaw Complaint Process
- Residential Bylaw Complaints
- Business Bylaw Complaints
- Smoking, Noise and Nuisance Complaints
- Street Signs and Vehicle Complaints
- Tree and Plant Complaints
Case by Case
An officer will help you to understand how you contravened the bylaw and what you should do. The officer may issue a warning notice with directions to remedy the problem or issue a fine immediately, depending on the circumstances. The practice of issuing warnings does not apply to all bylaw situations.
