Residential Mechanical Permits
Mechanical permits are mandatory for alterations or installations of plumbing, gas, sewer and water services, and heating and ventilation (includes hydronic or hot water heating).
Guidelines
All permits must be obtained prior to construction.
New installations or alterations of mechanical components most often require permits as the work must conform to the standards found in the Safety Codes Permit Bylaw 15894.
Inspections
Each permit requires an inspection to ensure the work has been completed up to code. Inspections are included in the cost of the mechanical permit.
With concealed equipment, it is in the best interest of the applicant to ensure that the inspection is done prior to covering any equipment as the City needs to verify the work was done correctly.
An inspector has the authority to request the area be uncovered for a proper inspection to take place.
