Licences & Permits
Why permits are needed
The City issues permits and licences for the development, construction and use of all commercial, industrial, institutional or residential properties and buildings. The permits set standards for the health and safety of the citizens of Edmonton and ensure Edmonton's reputation as a great place to live, work and do business.
Guidelines
Permit and licence approvals are made based on legislation from the Municipal Government Act, City bylaws, the Edmonton Zoning Bylaw, and the Alberta Building Code.
Services
We consolidated permit and licence applications so that the customer can apply for any of the following permits and licences at one central location: development, building, and mechanical permits, business, personal, pets and vehicle for hire licensing, and inspections.
Payment Card Security Policy
The City of Edmonton, in accordance with the Payment Card Industry security standards, has taken measures to protect your payment card information.
We are required to delete applications submitted with credit card information by unsecured methods such as fax or email.
If fee payment is required as part of your application, we accept cash, debit, cheque or credit card. If applying by fax, email, or mail, a service representative will call you to advise you of your fees.
Permits/Licences are not issued until all fees have been paid.
