Outdoor Skating & Ice Rinks
Skaters have several choices for public outdoor ice skating surfaces in Edmonton. Community Services maintains both ground and pond ice rinks in the major parks. It is recommended that children or inexperienced skaters use an approved helmet while on the ice to prevent injuries.
You can skate on stormwater lakes when conditions allow. The Drainage Branch oversees all uses of these lakes, and certain restrictions and conditions are in place to ensure that health and ecological issues are properly addressed.
Exact dates for opening and current conditions are dependant upon the weather.
| Solid ground | Beginning of December | Beginning of March |
|---|---|---|
| Open water ponds | Late December | Beginning of March |
These ice surfaces are monitored on a daily basis and will be closed if unsafe. Be Safe on Ice - please keep off closed ice surfaces and obey all signage.
Note: Sticks, balls and pucks are only allowed in a designated shinny/hockey area. Pets are not allowed. For more information, please see Public Skating Guidelines.
The Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues provides outdoor skating surfaces as part of their Winter Fun programs.
