Trail/Park Cautions & Closures

Updated by City of Edmonton Park Rangers. May 2, 2013

Please report any trail concerns or comments you may have to trails@edmonton.ca

Trail Caution - Whitemud Park North - Grandview, Brookside Area

A section of the creek bank in the Whitemud Nature Reserve north of the pipeline corridor has experienced some erosion problems in recent weeks. Spring run-off has collapsed a portion of the creek bank adjacent the granular trail. The trail is still passable and the eroded area has been taped off.  Please, for your own safety, stay back from the creek bank.

Trail Closures - Queen Elizabeth, Rossdale and Kinsmen Parks

Over the next 3 years, construction of the new Walterdale bridge will have an impact in and around the area of the current bridge structure. As a result, pedestrian and cyclist movement in the area will be affected. The park space and trails affected during the construction period are the lower portion of Queen Elizabeth Park, the lower gravel trail in Kinsmen Park and the parks area and trail around the EPCOR generating station. To ensure pedestrian and cyclist safety, the trails will be closed on January 7, 2013 and will remain closed until construction is completed in 2015. For your safety, please stay away from the closed areas during construction.

Trail Closure - Whitemud Park South - Twin Brooks

The City of Edmonton has identified a substantial slide on the east bank of Whitemud Creek where it borders the community of Twin Brooks. The broken-away portion of the top of the bank has encroached onto the granular, public walking path that runs just behind the houses backing towards the ravine. The closed section of trail falls between 9B Avenue and 119 Street through to 12 Avenue and 119 Street. The City has barricaded and signed off a section of the unstable valley slope to ensure the safety of residents and trail users in this area. Please use the residential sidewalks along 119 street to bypass this area.
