Badge Programs

Looking for a chance to get your group outside and active? River Valley Programs has many great programs to help your group develop new outdoor skills and experiences. Work on your badge requirements with experienced instructors and all the needed equipment.

Designed for skill development, these 4-hour programs can be adapted to fit most group sizes and needs, and are led by our qualified, certified staff. There is equipment available for individuals with special needs. Call 780-496-2983 for pricing and registration.

Year-round Programs

Orienteering and Navigation
Ages 8 - Adult

Learn to find your way! Acquire navigation and map reading skills, learn to use a compass, and follow an orienteering course.

GPS and Geo-Caching
Ages 10 - Adult

Learn how to use a Global Positioning System for navigation and recreation, and explore the tools needed for the world-wide scavenger hung known as geo-caching!

Outdoor Skills
Ages 6 - Adult

Learn survival and camping skills such as shelter building, fire building, safe knife and axe use. Ask us about outdoor cooking opportunities including bannock.

Initiatives and Team Building
Ages 10 - Adult

Build an understanding of group communication and teamwork by facing challenges and problem-solving activities as a group.

Predator and Prey
Ages 10 - Adult

Experience first hand how animals survive and thrive! This classic game is a fantastic demonstration of the dynamics of a food chain and animal survival techniques.

Voyageur canoeing on the North Saskatchewan RiverOvernight Trips
Explore the outdoors with our instructors. Use voyageur canoes to access campsites along the North Saskatchewan River, or head out to Jasper National Park for an advanced mountain biking adventure! We can help you plan and lead your next outdoor excursion.

Spring, Summer and Fall Programs

Cycling Skills
Ages 8 - Adult

Get on a bike, strap on a helmet, follow our instructors and explore the bike trails of Edmonton’s river valley! Learn about equipment sizing, bike maintenance, and trail safety, and improve your cycling skills.

Tandem Canoeing
Ages 9 - Adult

Learn the importance of teamwork and communication as you canoe in pairs. Basic strokes, safety, and fun will be emphasized. All instructors are Paddle Canada certified.

Voyageur Canoeing
Ages 10 - Adult

Enjoy the sights of Edmonton's river valley as you paddle down the North Saskatchewan River in a 32-foot long, 12-person canoe! You will also discover the natural and historical highlights of Edmonton’s river valley. 

Archery
Ages 9 - AdultLow ropes at Queen Elizabeth Compound

Ready, aim, fire! Learn about the equipment and discover the basics of archery, while practicing aim and accuracy.

Low Ropes
Ages 9 - Adult

The low ropes course is a unique opportunity for individuals to work through obstacles while being supported by their peers.

Winter Programs

Snowshoeing
Ages 6 - Adult

Learn how to travel using Canada’s traditional mode of transportation - snowshoes! Classic beavertail-style snowshoes are great for younger participants and families, while aluminum snowshoes allow you to run, climb, and access more remote winter locations.

Cross-country skiing at Gold Bar ParkCross-Country Skiing
Ages 8 - Adult

Try out the groomed tracks at one of our cross-country skiing sites, or let us bring the skis to you with our mobile set. Fun and safety are emphasized in this experiential learning program.

Winter Wonderland
Ages 5 - Adult

Celebrate winter! This program will rid you of those winter blues! Join us for skating, tobogganing, games, snowshoeing, and a campfire!
