Dawson Park

Dawson Park extends between 84 Street and 92 Street, on the north bank of the North Saskatchewan River, extending north to Jasper Ave.

History

Like its neighbours, Dawson Park shares a long history of industry and coal mining dating back to the turn of the 19th century. The Dawson Mine was situated across the river where the current Riverside Golf Course parking lot is. The mine was the driving reason for building the Dawson Bridge in 1911. The bridge was built to help facilitate the movement of workers and coal. This area was popular with residents and industry at the turn of the century as it had a lumbermill, a brickworks and a coal mine nearby. The Dawson Mine closed in 1944.
