New Year's Eve Downtown

Help the City of Edmonton and Events Edmonton ring in 2012 at the 12th annual New Year’s Eve Downtown festival. This free, fun-filled family event will take place at City Hall and Sir Winston Churchill Square and starts with the official launch of the Metropolis Edmonton International Winter Festival.

Schedule of Events

The festivities start after the official launch of METROPOLIS at 6:15pm and take you right into 2012!

6:15pm

  • Launch of METROPOLIS in Churchill Square
  • DJ on Main Stage
  • Activities start in the Children's Pavilion

7pm 

  • Indoor Programming starts in City Hall
  • Programming starts in the Community Centre Pavilion
  • Skating Party on City Plaza*
  • Taste of Winter - 12 vendors serving soups, chilies and other winter fare
  • Polar Brewhouse operated by Canadian Brewhouse serving non-alcoholic beverages 

9pm 

  • Outdoor stage live entertainment in Churchill Square
  • Street Dance on 100 Street between 102 Ave and 102A Ave

Midnight (12am) 

  • Fireworks display launched from 103 Avenue.

* Skating at Sir Winston Churchill Square is weather permitting.

In the interest of keeping everyone safe, there will be road closures downtown on December 31, 2011 until at least 12:45am on January 1, 2012.

Total closure of:
100 Street, from 102 Avenue - 102A Avenue

3pm
Total closure of:
99 Street, from 102 Avenue – City Hall Parkade

10pm
Total closure of:
103A Avenue, from 97 Street – 101 Street
104 Avenue, from 99 Street – 101 Street
100 Street, from 102A Avenue – 103A Avenue

11pm
Total closure of:
102 Avenue, from 97 Street – 101 Street
99 Street, from 101A Avenue – 102 Avenue
100 Street, 101A Avenue – 102 Avenue

Parking

Parking is available for $1 after 6pm at Edmonton City Hall*, Stanley A. Milner Library, City Centre West parkade and the Canada Place parkade.

Edmonton Transit, St. Albert Transit and Strathcona Transit will be free from 4pm to 3am.

*Please be aware the City Hall Parkade will be closed to both entry and exit from 10pm on December 31 until approximately 12:30am on January 1.
