Birthday Party Packages

Celebrate your child's birthday with a nature adventure at the
 John Janzen Nature Centre.

Birthday Parties are available year round, but space is limited. Parties must be booked at least one month (30 days) in advance. Book early to avoid disappointment! Payment for the program must be made at the time of booking.

Fees & Group Size

• Parties booked for 2013: $175
• The maximum group size is 30 people, including parents and siblings.
• Additional guests above the maximum number of 30, adults or children, will be required to pay applicable admissions costs and will not be able to participate in the program activities.
• A minimum of 4 adults must stay with the children to assist with supervision.
• All fees, including optional additions (room rentals and total number of party bags), must be reserved and paid in full at the time of booking. No refunds or additions for room rentals and treat bags will be accepted once the booking has been placed.
• Program dates and times cannot be booked or held until payment is received.

• You can stay longer to allow time for gift opening and cake by booking a room after the party program. $30/hour.
  • Please note that party rooms are unavailable for cake and presents during the program without a room rental.
• Party bags are available for:
  • $3 each (2013 rate)*
• Bags include 2 pieces of candy/gum, 2 toys (1 of which may be stickers), free child admission passes to Fort Edmonton Park, Muttart Conservatory, John Janzen Nature Centre, Edmonton Valley Zoo, and Kinsmen Sports Centre.
• Ask us about catering options for your party snacks or lunch.
• Birthday child will receive a free t-shirt.

*Starting June 24, 2013 we will no longer sell treat bags for birthday parties, instead, every child attending the party will receive:

• One 50% discount off a single admission to an attraction
• One free single admission to a fitness and leisure centre

Cancellation Policy

• Programs run rain or shine.
• You must call 780-496-2601 or email specialmoments@edmonton.ca to cancel/reschedule your party.
• A fee of 50% of the cost of the program will be charged for cancellations unless the program is rescheduled within the same calendar year at the time of cancellation.
• The cancellation fee will not be waived if notice of cancellation/rescheduling is given less than 2 weeks (14 days) of the scheduled program.
• The full program fee will be charged if less than 48 hours notice is given for cancellations or rescheduling.

Dinosaur Adventure Birthday Party

Ages 4-8

Just how big was the largest dinosaur on earth? Have a gigantically fun time finding out, as a naturalist takes your birthday party into the past when these large animals roamed the earth. Become a paleontologist, handle real fossils, and create a dino-mite craft!

Seasonal Super Sleuth Birthday

Ages 4-6

Your group will become detectives and assist our naturalist in looking for answers to nature’s mysteries. Use a magnifying glass to search for clues of the season. Winter tracks, spring flowers, summer bugs, and autumn leaves; you never know what you’ll discover! Visit the animals in our Exhibit Room, create a craft, play nature games, or go on a nature scavenger hunt.

Stalking and Tracking Animals

Ages 7-11

Discover Edmonton’s wildlife by identifying and following tracks in the mud (or snow) and searching for other clues about who’s been hanging around the Nature Centre. Learn how to approach animals so you can enjoy their beauty, play wildlife stalking games and use our animal track replicas to practice making different types of animal tracks.

Bug-Mania Birthday

Ages 5-10

The mysteries of a bug’s life will become reality when we search for invertebrates from the smallest ant to the biggest bug. We’ll meet some other tiny critters when we explore the forest. Peek inside our beehive, go on a bug hunt, create a critter, and meet one of our live bug-eating animals up close. On rainy days we’ll spend more time exploring the Exhibit Room – it’s full of bug-ology.

Bug-Mania Birthday Party 2013 Information Package

Pond Party

Ages 6-11

Capture a dragonfly or damselfly nymphs in your dip net, search for phantom midges, and look for birds and mammals that live near the pond. This program is full of exploration for curious kids. Led by a naturalist, you’ll learn about some of the fantastic creatures that live in ponds. Meet a salamander or garter snake and play some nature games.

Snowshoe Adventure Birthday

Ages 7-12

Active winter fun for all! Learn to use snowshoes, play games, and identify the animal tracks left in the snow. If the weather is cold we’ll spend more time indoors creating wintry crafts, playing indoor games, visiting the animals, and exploring the Exhibit Room.
