How To Play

Buy a Conservation Button  for a minimum donation of $2 for the animal you want to win from the cashier booths  at the main gate or Zoo Store.

These donations help raise money for the specified conservation effort associated with each animal! Check the race board at the front gate to see how your favourite animal is doing! 

Voting Starts May 12! We will announce the winner on World Animal Day October 6, 2013!

Shaka the Grevy's Zebra

Weight: Weight is irrelevant when you are as handsome as me!

Date of Birth: May 27, 1998

Fun Facts about Shaka: Shaka loves to show off his intricate patterns of black and white to visitors. He is also especially fond of his favourite treats (carrots) given by his human servant Frank.

Conservation Effort: Grevy's Zebra Trust

Echo the Arctic Fox

Weight: 5.4 kg

Date of Birth: June 1, 2008 in Winnipeg, Manitoba at Assiniboine Park Zoo

Fun Facts about Echo: Echo loves to hide or "cache" his food so he can return to it later to have a snack. Bianca, the female, does the same thing, but sometimes they steal each other's secret stash. Echo tends to find more of the hidden food than Bianca so the keepers have to watch his weight closely as he does like to eat!

Sherri the Snow Leopard

Weight: “Of all the nerve! How dare you ask me such a question!"

Date of Birth: April 25, 1999

Fun Facts about Sherri: Sherri can jump up to 50 feet horizontally and 20 feet vertically! Sherri loves the snow and cold weather. Her favourite food is lamb - yum! Her best activity is relaxing  in her hammock - a natural athlete doesn’t need much training!

Rover the Children's Python

Weight: 1.42 kg

Date of Birth: Approximately 1996

Fun Facts about Rover: Rover came to the Edmonton Valley Zoo by a private donation, he was someone's pet. Because snakes can grow faster if you feed them more food or more often, it is difficult to know exactly how old Rover is. They are not called Children's Pythons because they are good with kids. They were named after the scientist who first described them - John George Children!
