The Edmonton Valley Zoo National Zookeeper Week Celebration!

Time: noon–4pm

The National Zookeeper Week Celebration has been planned to celebrate our zookeepers – It’s clear they do more than pick up poop! Established by the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK), National Zookeeper Week Summer Celebration offers visitors an opportunity to talk to Edmonton Valley Zoo keepers about the care they provide for the zoo’s animals each day.

Enjoy creating a Year of the Snake Craft; playing Pin the Keys on the Zookeeper or for something more active, the little ones can enjoy pretending they are a baby Prairie Dogs in the bigger and better than ever Prairie Dog Tunnels! Learn what it takes to be a zookeeper in the Junior Zookeeper Scavenger Hunt! Before you go home, drop off a Thank You Card you made and watch as we present all the cards to the Zookeepers and make them compete in Zoo Staff Olympics!

Animal Attraction – Speed Dating at the Edmonton Valley Zoo!

Date: Friday July 26 and Saturday July 27
Time: 7–10pm

An absolutely unique and unforgettable evening awaits you at the Edmonton Valley Zoo’s fifth annual Animal Attraction Special Event! Enjoy an evening filled with warm beverages and delicious desserts while learning steamy details about animal romance and attracting mates.

The main focus of the night will be the speed dating portion hosted by Edmonton’s original speed dating service “Eight Minute Date”. Guests will rapidly meet a variety of people in a safe environment while enjoying the incredible sights and sounds of the Edmonton Valley Zoo at night. There will also be special animal encounters, music, and so much more.

Animal Mythbusters!

Date: Sunday August 11, 2013
Time: noon-4pm

Edmonton Valley Zoo – Busting Animal Myths since 1959! Do goats really faint? Does an elephant ever forget? Are snakes really slimy? Do porcupines shoot their quills? Join us at the Edmonton Valley Zoo to be a myth buster and to find out the answers to these questions and so much more! We will be busting myths all afternoon so bring your questions and they will be answered!

Animal Enrichment Day - More than Just the Bare Necessities!

Date: August 25, 2013
Time: noon–4pm

Check out the Creature Comforts touch table to learn all about these enrichments, why they are important, and what they look like. After you have learn all about the enrichments play “Spot the Enrichment” Bingo. Try and find enrichments in animal enclosures – they could be objects, sounds, smells or tastes.

Next, stop by the craft station to build an enrichment for your pet at home and don’t forget to watch our resident animals get an enrichment of their own. “Get Closer” with animal encounters and the Animal Enrichment Day Presentations. On your way out get your picture taken at our photo booth Enrichment – it’s free, or try your hand at painting like Lucy.
