Special Event Contingency Planning
The Office of Emergency Preparedness encourages all event organizers to develop an Event Emergency Action Plan for their event. Producing an Event Emergency Action Plan (EAP) has a number of benefits that will help your organization deliver a safe and successful event:
- It assists in identifying risks or potential risks.
- It assists in identifying what measures need to be put in place for the protection and well-being of the public and participants who will be attending the event.
- It reduces the risk of loss of life and property damage resulting from an emergency.
- It identifies individual/groups/organizations roles and responsibilities.
To assist event organizers the Office of Emergency Preparedness has developed a step by step guide to creating an Emergency Action Plan and partnered with the Civic Events Office to develop an Event Planning Checklist.
The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), in collaboration with municipal partners, the RCMP and Environment Canada has created a draft template to assist event planners. The Interim Mass Gathering document can be adapted and revised for the needs of your event.
