For Groups

To book your group's next visit to the Muttart Conservatory, call our school and group programs bookings office at: 780-442-1442 or email cmsschoolbookings@edmonton.ca. If you have special requests, want a custom program, or need more detailed information about programs at Muttart, contact the bookings office and ask to speak to the program coordinator.

Group Size

  • The maximum number of children permitted in a program is 30. Groups exceeding 30 children must book an additional program.
  • Adults are admitted with the program in the following ratios:
    • Ages 5 and under: 1 adult per 3 children 
    • Ages 6 and up: 1 adult per 5 children
  • For groups who arrive exceeding the maximum of 30 children or 40 people total, the extra participants will be asked to pay facility admission and enjoy the Muttart Conservatory on their own.

2015-2016 Group Programs

Little Sprouts

Ages: 4-6

During this program, your little sprouts will be introduced to the wonderful world of plants. Through hands-on activities, children will explore plant life in the pyramids as they troop through the tropical and delight in the desert. After some fun and games, each child will plant a seedling to take home. 

Program Length: 1.5 hours (age 4) or 2 hours (ages 4-6)
Available: Year round

Let's Grow

Ages: 7-9

Children will be introduced to secret growing strategies of plants from different parts of the world during this exciting program. Find out how important plants are to humans, and learn how bugs can benefit the plants in the pyramids. After a fun-filled journey through the biomes, each participants will pot a plant to take home and nurture.

Program Length: 2 hours
Available: Year round

Gardener's Badge

Ages: 10-12

Through a variety of activities, young people will be introduced to the basics of gardening. Children will discover the importance of soil, learn how composting helps gardeners and even visit with our resident vermicomposting worms. Explore the benefits of gardening as you venture through the pyramids. Each child pots a plant, and sows some mystery seeds to take home.

Ladybugs & Friends

Ages: 4-8

Get to know all about ladybugs and beneficial insects at the Muttart Conservatory. Discover the importance of ladybugs through activities, stories and songs. We’ll even release some real beneficial bugs into one of the pyramids! You'll top this fabulous program off by potting a plant to take home in honour of our insect friends.

Program Length: 1.5 hours (ages 4-5), 2 hours (ages 6-8)
Available: September & October, February - June

Globetrotting Botanists

Ages: 9-12

Participants are provided with the tools of the trade to become official botanists! As we explore a tropical escape, an arid climate and a temperate garden, these budding botanists will discover the survival strategies of plants from different parts of the planet. We'll uncover exciting facts and learn about the importance of plants to people. After our investigations are complete, we'll pot our very own plant to take home!

For Adults

Adult Guided Tour

$179

Ages 18+

Join a knowledgable interpreter for an hour-long guided tour of the gems of our collection. You’ll explore the lush plant life of the tropical pyramid, discover unique plant adaptations in the arid pyramid and enjoy the changing of the seasons in the temperate pyramid.

*available during weekday hours and includes facility admission. 

Group Size

  • The maximum group size in an adult program is 20. Groups exceeding 20 adults must book an additional program.
  • For groups who arrive exceeding the maximum of 20 adults total, the extra participants will be asked to pay facility admission and enjoy the Muttart Conservatory on their own.

Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy

  • You are required to provide written notice of cancellation of your programs via email at cmsschoolbookings@edmonton.ca.
  • If a program is cancelled and is not rescheduled within the same school year at the time of cancellation, a fee of 50% of the cost of the program will be charged.
  • The cancellation fee will not be waived if notice of cancellation/rescheduling is given less than 2 weeks of the scheduled program.
  • The full program fee will be charged if less than 48 hours notice is given for cancellations or rescheduling.
  • Programs run rain or shine. In the event of poor weather, you must call 780-442-1442 or email cmsschoolbookings@edmonton.ca if you are not coming. If you cancel due to weather conditions:
    • You will not be charged for re-scheduling in the same school year, OR
    • You will be charged a fee of 50% of the program cost per class if the program is NOT rescheduled
    • Cancellation fees will be applied to your account and the balance refunded (as applicable) to you through the City of Edmonton, Citizen Services. Please allow 15 days for processing.
