Child and Family Programs

Experience a slice of pioneer life first-hand at John Walter Museum.
Child
Ice Cream Afternoon (3-5 years) $24
Take a cool break from summer's heat by making ice cream the old fashioned way. We'll explore artifacts and discover what life was like as a pioneer child, play a variety of historical games and wash Mr. Walter's wool socks. Adult attendance is required for this program and additional children cannot be accommodated.
To register or waitlist, see Pioneer - Pre-school.
Urban Pioneers for Homeschoolers (6-12 years) $12
Transport back in time over one hundred years to John Walter's 1875 and 1886 homes. Together, we will bring history to life by baking scones on a wood burning stove, churning butter, dipping a candle and making a wool based craft. Through these hands-on activities we'll discover the lives of early Edmontonians and experience how the Walter family and the community of Walterdale changed over time. Adult attendance for this program is optional. However, we ask that no more than 1 adult attends per registered child.
To register or waitlist, see Pioneer - Child.
