White-nosed Coatimundi

Scientific name: Nasua narica

Habitat: woodlands, mountain forests, wooded canyons

Diet: insects, lizards, rodents, snakes, fruit

Life span: 14 years

Young: 4-6 young/litter

Size: 4-5 kg (7.5-12 lbs)

This largest member of the raccoon family lives both on the ground and in the trees. They climb as easily as a squirrel using their long tails for balance. Coatis can rotate their hind feet to descend from the trees head first!

Their long pointed snout, which is very flexible at the tip, is used to poke into crevices to find food.
