Scarlet Macaw

Habitat: tropical rainforest below 900 m (3,000 ft)
Diet: mainly nuts, fruit; also insects
Life span: 80 years
Young: 1-2 eggs/clutch
Size: average height 90 cm (3 ft)
Scarlet macaws spend most of the day with their mate. They flock together as they fly over large areas of the rainforest searching for fruit trees. Macaws use their loud hoarse calls to find one another in the dense forest.
The young stay with their parents for up to 2 years before leaving on their own.
