Prehensile-tailed Skink

Scientific name: Corucia zebrata
Habitat: tropical rainforests of the Solomon Islands
Diet: leaves, flowers, fruit, vegetables
Life span: 15-25 years
Young: 1-2 young/litter
Size: up to 80 cm (32 in) long
This lizard is named for its tail which is adapted for grasping (prehensile) and is used for climbing. Also known as the monkey-tailed skink, these powerful climbers spend most of their lives in treetops and are most active at dawn and dusk.
Prehensile-tailed skinks are one of the few reptile species that live in a communal group called a circulus.
