American bullfrogs are the largest frogs in North America. Their tadpoles can take up to 4 years to mature.
They are now found almost worldwide because of importation and accidental or intentional release. In countries where these bullfrogs have been introduced, they eat the local frog species and compete with them for food. This results in rapid population declines in foreign frog, snake and turtle species.
American bullfrog legs are considered a delicacy.
