1. Terwillegar Park

Terwillegar Park is a perfect place for walking your dogs, cycling, running or general winter enjoyment. Located in the southwest end of Edmonton, the 186-hectare park provides enough space for all visitors to enjoy their visit in relative peace and quiet.

Portable, unheated toilets are available.

2. John Janzen Nature Centre

A gateway to the heart of Edmonton's River Valley, the John Janzen Nature Centre takes visitors for a walk on the wild side with programs, events and interactive exhibits designed to promote awareness and engagement with nature in an urban setting.

3. Whitemud Park

Located in South West Edmonton the Whitemud Park is located just off of Fox Drive. Nestled at the start of the Whitemud Ravine, the park is a perfect location to enjoy a piece of Edmonton’s urban nature.

4. Alfred H. Savage Centre

The Alfred H. Savage Centre in Whitemud Park makes it easier for Edmontonians of all abilities to pursue nature-related activities in the river valley. Located at the base of the park’s toboggan hill, it serves as a warm-up and washroom facility for trail users and sledders in the winter. Throughout the year, it is a hub for outdoor education and environmental programs such as orienteering or snowshoeing. It is also a great place for community gatherings as there is a bookable room inside

5. Edmonton Valley Zoo

Get closer to them like never before. The Edmonton Valley Zoo is home to over 350 animals, with a full range of species from different climates and habitats — all here for you to discover, learn about and appreciate. Winter is a great time to visit, as the snow falls the zoo awaits.

6. Buena Vista/Laurier Park

In Buena Vista Park, adjacent to the dog off leash area you will find a portable toilet which can be used year round.  In Laurier Park there are two portable toilets located along the trail at the back of the park, as well as a portable toilet at the maintenance building.

7. William Hawrelak Park Pavillion

William Hawrelak Park (originally Mayfair Park) is a 68 hectare park in the river valley featuring a 5 hectare lake and open snowy areas. The park hosts several major festivals and events throughout the year and is a fantastic location for all Edmontonians and visitors to explore year round.  Stop in and see what winter wonders you can find in this beautiful River Valley Park.

8. Hawrelark Park Shelter #2

This building located on the South side of the Park just before the bridge, was upgraded in 2014 and offers heated indoor washrooms which will help to make your River Valley recreation experience a little warmer and a bit more comfortable.

9. Emily Murphy Park

Emily Murphy Park is on the south bank of the North Saskatchewan River, and carries the name of a well known women’s rights activist. Located adjacent to Groat Road, it is nestled in the beautiful River Valley.

10. Government House Park

This park is on the north side of the North Saskatchewan River, adjacent to Groat Road, and offers a fantastic view of the water.  Take a moment to explore this park and be inspired by the River Valley.

11. Victoria Golf Course

The oldest municipally run golf course will open the driving range washroom building for winter recreationalists this winter!  The golf course is a great location to enjoy the snow in the River Valley, as the cross-country ski trails meet up with the NEW Victoria Park Pavilion. There is ample parking on-site, so grab your skis and hit the trails.

  • Skating nearby at the Victoria Park Pavilion Skating Oval

12. Victoria Park Pavillion

This Winter Chalet is located in Victoria Park and provides wonderful warm-up facilities for those recreating in the River Valley.  Adjacent to the Victoria Oval, the indoor skate change area is an exciting and welcome addition for residents who visit Victoria Park for a skating, or cross country ski experience. Come and enjoy this new amenity building yourself this winter season.

13. Kinsmen Sports Centre

Kinsmen Sports Centre is located in Edmonton's scenic river valley, only minutes away from the downtown core. An Edmonton landmark, rich in history, Kinsmen has hosted several international multi-sport events.  Kinsmen Sport Centre provides great opportunities to warm up and work out, while outside there are a number of winter activities to enjoy in the sparkling snow.

14. Queen Elizabeth Park

Queen Elizabeth Park has served as a destination park for Edmontonians since 1909. The Park encompasses 31 hectares on the south bank of Edmonton’s river valley, just east of Kinsmen Sports Centre. The park provides amenities such as year-round trails, and picnic areas.

15. Muttart Conservatory

The Muttart Conservatory is unique at first sight. This innovative botanical garden sets the pace for plant science in western Canada and defines Edmonton’s skyline with striking glass pyramids rising from river valley.

Live music, dance, fine art showcases, and handcrafting programs from the Conservatory’s experienced instructors bring nature and art together. Visit the facility this winter and enjoy the warmth after taking in the winter wonders in the River Valley.

16. Louise McKinney Riverfront Park

This park is the front door to the river valley parks system and a gateway to trails throughout the city. It is a vibrant venue for special events and river-based activities.

17. Dawson Park

Dawson Park runs between 84 Street and 92 Street on the north bank of the North Saskatchewan River, extending north to Jasper Ave. The park shares a long history of industry and coal mining dating back to the turn of the 19th century.

18. Riverside Golf Course

This golf course is steeped in history and provides excellent recreational opportunities throughout the year.  You will find cross country ski trails perfectly situated in amoungst the trees.

19. Capilano Park

This park is on the south side of the river, at the end of 50th Street. It provides a jumping-off point for cross country skiers in the winter, or trail users in the spring, fall and winter.

Heated indoor washroom building is available.

20. Goldbar Park Pavillion

This pavilion is nestled in the River Valley amoungst a network of cross country ski trails.  It offers winter recreationalists a washroom, warm up space, table to relax and enjoy a winter snack and a water fountain.

21. Rundle Family Centre

Nestled among beautiful parkland in northeast Edmonton, Rundle Family Centre provides a wonderful recreation hub in the River Valley.  A scenic park vista beside a man-made lake make this location one of a kind.  After enjoying the outdoors washrooms, and an area to warm up and enjoy a bit to eat are available at this Winter Chalet.  Winter themed rental packages are available for those that are interested.

22. ACT Recreation Centre

Located beside the Rundle Family Centre, the ACT Recreation Centre offers a lovely opportunity to warm up and relax.  Enjoy a coffee or lunch at the recently opened Dogwood Café, or take in the numerous recreational activities at the facility.  When you’re ready to take in the winter wonders, you’ll enjoy how close a number of winter activities await.

23. Rundle Park Tennis Courts

A good location to stop in and use the facilities while enjoying the winter in the River Valley.

24. Hermitage Park Maintenance Building

Located at the back of the maintenance building, these washrooms are open for the public to use during the day.

25. Hermitage Park Off Leash

Located adjacent to the dogs off leash area, this location is a great location to head out for a winter walk in the River Valley.
