Water Play

The best way to stay cool during the summer months is to head to one of the City’s free, drop-in water play features. There are lots of places to splash away the day, some of them in your very own neighbourhood.
Note: Babies must wear water play diapers while using City water play features.
District Water Play Sites

Rules
Water Play Rules
- Appropriate swimwear is required (swimming suits or shorts). NOTE: Any young children who are not toilet-trained must wear tight fitting rubber pants over disposable water diapers and bathing suits.
Rationale: This is to ensure no fecal matter is released into the water play area.
- All children under the age of 6 years must be accompanied by an adult or responsible person of 13 years (or older) actively supervising them at the water play area.
Rationale: Children under 6 years can easily and quickly get themselves into dangerous situations in unfamiliar environments. Water environments are especially appealing to young children and can be dangerous (or fatal).
- Safety is our primary concern, and since young children are not able to consistently take responsibility for themselves their guardian must.
- Anyone having a skin disease, sores, or inflamed eyes, colds, nasal or ear discharge, or a communicable disease will not be permitted in the water play area.
Rationale: These people could spread infectious diseases or their cuts or sores can become infected.
- Any person with diarrhea or a history of diarrhea over the previous 2 weeks must not use the water play facility.
Rationale: Feces may carry infectious diseases.
- Pushing, chasing, fighting, roughhousing, running in or around the water play area is not allowed.
Rationale: The above activities have a great potential for resulting in injury or bodily harm to both participating individuals and bystanders.
- All persons must walk slowly while in the water play area.
Rationale: Our deck and floors may be slippery when wet, therefore walking slowly will minimize the risk of injury from falls/ slips.
- Keep pets out of the water and water play area.
Rationale: Pets will contaminate the water and are not legally allowed in play areas.
- Customers exhibiting foul language and or disruptive behaviour, including consistent disregard for rules and staff authority, will be asked to leave the water play area.
Rationale: Such activity is offensive to customers and is not in keeping with our family fun concept.
- Alcoholic beverages and illegal drug substances are prohibited. Patrons who are suspected of being under the influence or in possession of the above substances will be asked to leave the facility immediately or turned over to the police.
Rationale: Use of the substances while in the water play area increases the risk of injury to self and others.
- Bikes, skateboards, or rollerblades are not permitted to enter the water play area.
Rationale: It’s not safe for the other people in the water play area and the area will become contaminated.
- Food is not to be consumed on the deck or water play area.
Rationale: Consuming food on the water play area poses a potential cleanliness and sanitation problem and the deck appearance.
- Chewing gum while playing is not recommended.
Rationale: Chewing gum while swimming at City Hall or playing with water can lead to partial or complete airway obstruction (choking). Gum can plug up drains or pipes.
- No glass containers in or around the water play area.
Rationale: Glass bottles may break if dropped resulting in glass fragments which pose a risk of injury to staff and other participants.
- No drinking, spitting or spouting of water.
Rationale: The nozzle and its associated fresh water may get contaminated by organic matter (i.e.: sand, urine, sweat, etc) and may make the kids sick.
- No urinating in water play area.
Rationale: This is a health hazard to other participants in the water play area.
- No Water Balloons.
Rationale: Water Balloons will clog the drains and are extremely difficult to clean up.
